HANEKOM
Dirk Hanekom was born and raised in Bloemfontein. After a few years in the retail and publishing industry as well as a short stint in musical theater, he embarked on a career in storytelling and creative direction and hasn't looked back since.
He started as a videographer and editor for Watkykjy.co.za, the biggest Afrikaans blog in South Africa, where he received two Loeries and a Pendoring award for his work on the "Wie's Bang" campaign with Van Coke Kartel.
Since then he has done a large amount of advertising work, specialising in direction, production, cinematography, off- and online editing, sound design and writing. From 2020 onwards, Dirk decided to specialise and focus his attention on directing, conceptual development and scriptwriting.
Previous and current clients include Windhoek, Heineken, MINI, AirBnB, Takealot, Safrican, Viseker, Adidas, Bridgestone, KykNet, The Telesure Group, The Foschini Group, Hyatt Hotels and The Rezidor Group, and many others..
Dirk has a passion for visual and narrative creation and currently embraces life in Cape Town, where he has a beautiful view of the mountain and an even more beautiful wife and daughter.

TV COMMERCIAL - 2018
Virseker needed to re-approach their corporate identity, transitioning away from a humour based approach, and focusing on emotion and a direct connection with its audience. Produced over a period of two months, the resulting campaign featured real Afrikaans speakers in their every day lives, showcasing the diversity of the language and its speakers.

THE AIRBNB ACADEMY - 2021
The Airbnb Entrepreneurship Academy is a skills development programme with a focus on women and youth. Established in South Africa in 2017, the Academy was designed to support a new generation of tourism entrepreneurs in rural and township communities. This video tells the story of Academy graduates like Zamani Nonduduzo Khumalo, who hosts in Mphembeni in KwaZulu-Natal.
